Almost everyone knows that brick is one of mankind’s oldest and most durable building materials. Maybe that is the reason why it is sometimes overlooked in ‘modern’ architecture, despite its countless creative design possibilities and excellent energy efficiency. That’s why Wienerberger initiated the Wienerberger Brick Award and accompanying biannual architecture book in 2004, in order to promote the aesthetic and functional assets that facing bricks, clay blocks and roof tiles have to offer for contemporary architecture.
This year, the Wienerberger Brick Award celebrated its tenth anniversary. Wienerberger initiated the generously endowed prize in 2004. The established award is organised every two years, with a changing jury of renowned architects agreeing on the winning projects in various categories.
The award ceremony for the Wienerberger Brick Award 14 as well as the launch of the accompanying high-quality book took place during a symposium on May 8th in the Architekturzentrum Wien / Vienna: one grand prize, awards in five categories as well as two ‘Wienerberger Special Prizes‘ have been announced.
“BRICK 14” is already the sixth volume comprising all details on the award winners and all 50 nominees.
