Almost everyone knows that brick is one of mankind’s oldest and most durable building materials. Maybe that is the reason why it is sometimes overlooked in ‘modern’ architecture, despite its countless creative design possibilities and excellent energy efficiency. That is why Wienerberger initiated the Wienerberger Brick Award and accompanying biannual architecture book in 2004, in order to promote the aesthetic and functional assets that facing bricks, clay blocks, roof tiles and ceramic façade panels have to offer for contemporary architecture.
The established international award is organised every two years. The next Wienerberger Brick Award will be presented in 2016. The submission period has already ended on the 31st of March 2015. We received a great number of interesting projects from all over the world. During the next weeks, an independent panel of architecture critics and journalists, will view the projects and select the 50 nominations that will be presented to the international jury as well as in the accompanying architecture book Brick16.
