      The gathering of the world’s leading practitioners and innovators in Vienna for the BRICK AWARD creates an unrivalled opportunity to explore new thinking and exchange ideas. Held in the days immediately following the award ceremony, the biennial BRICK AWARD Architecture Symposium brings together this collective expertise for in‑depth discussion and critical insight. The program is livestreamed to a global audience, extending the conversation beyond Vienna and across the international architecture community.

      Cities of the Future

      Transforming for a Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Tomorrow

      Representing two-thirds of global energy consumption and accounting for more than seventy percent of greenhouse gas emissions, cities are big drivers of climate change. The speed and scale of global urbanization brings challenges, such as increased exposure to climate and disaster risk and accelerated demand for affordable housing and viable infrastructure. At the same time cities are hubs for creativity, innovation and education. They have the capacity to affect significant systemic changes across a range of critical environmental issues such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, ecosystem preservation, restoration and circular economy.
       
      The BRICK AWARD 26 Architecture Symposium discusses the critical role of architecture, urban planning and the building sector in re-thinking and transforming the sustainable cities of the future. Buildings need to contribute to environment and climate solutions, including energy saving and production. Smart renovations that focus on efficient use of energy and resources need to increase and contribute to a sustainable and affordable housing sector. Accessible, high-quality green spaces in cities that support biodiversity, physical and mental health and social well-being need to increase.
       
      The symposium presents innovative, radical and groundbreaking projects and ideas that spark discussions on solutions and possibilities creating hope and courage to form more resilient and liveable cities for all.

      Brick Award 26 Symposium Speaker - Nguyen Ha - Arb Architects Vietnam

      Nguyễn Hà

      Nguyễn Hà is a Vietnam‑based architect, researcher, and educator, founder of arb architects and co‑founder of MM Lab, whose work is rooted in local material cultures, craft traditions, and a contextual philosophy she calls Situated Serenity. Her craft-driven, research-led approach has earned international recognition—including the 2025 AR Emerging Awards and the 2024 Moira Gemmill Prize—and she continues to expand her practice through MM Lab, fellowships, and a 2025 Visiting Professorship at the University of Tennessee.

      Jeanne Autran-Edorh

      Jeanne Autran-Edorh is a French-Togolese architect and co-founder of Studio NEiDA, known for her decolonial, circular, and context-driven design approach shaped by experience at leading Pritzker Prize–winning studios. In 2025 she was named among the 50 Most Influential African Women in Architecture and currently teaches at KU Leuven, where she leads research-based design studios on material ecologies and postcolonial urbanism.

      Daniel Mangabeira da Vinha (BRA) is co-founder of BLOCO Arquitetos, a practice recognized for its precise tectonic approach, strong engagement with landscape, and consistent contribution to contemporary Brazilian architecture. His work, developed with his partners, has received wide national and international recognition. He has held significant institutional roles, including Cultural Director of the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil – Departamento do Distrito Federal (2008–2010). He is a member of Plano Coletivo, the collective behind the winning proposal selected to represent Brazil at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

      Matthew Urbanski

      Matthew Urbanski (USA) is a partner at MVVA whose work focuses on the emotional and experiential power of landscape, shaped by decades of designing parks, waterfronts, campuses, and gardens worldwide and by his long-standing teaching on ecological planting at Harvard GSD. Drawing on his background in biology, horticulture, and art—as well as his family‑run specialty plant nursery—he develops site‑specific landscapes rooted in wellness, craft, and the unique character of each place.

      Veronica Hejdelind

      Veronica Hejdelind (SE), is a writer, lecturer, and moderator working across architecture, urban development, sustainability, and social issues, drawing on experience from institutions such as the Arwidsson Foundation, ArkDes, and the National Museum. Her recent work includes national studies on adaptive reuse and the future of swimming pools in Sweden, alongside extensive moderation and consultancy for governmental agencies, municipalities, cultural institutions, and professional organizations.
